Do You See What Glen Sees? (Vol. 26)

By July 17, 2025Uncategorized

First, the answer to Vol. 25 (last week).

Thanks for all the participation! This post sure generated some interesting answers and discussion points (and food for thought for me for the future)!

There were two main things I identified in this photograph and Maya and Melody nailed one of them: the hard creases. The creases were caused by driving an approved LGP ATV over wrinkled geomembrane during the hotter portion of the previous day(s). You can see the creasing on all the adjoining panels as well. I observed this issue days earlier on the first-floor panel way to the right and immediately notified the installer and engineer. Unfortunately, the certifying engineer stated, “there is nothing in the specifications or CQA Plan that requires these to be repaired” and thus it was allowed to continue. I just talked about this photo among other issues in my PDH Hour With Glen webinar today. Feel free to check out the archives at https://cqasolutions.com/training-certification/webinars/webinar-replays/ – it will be a day or two before we get today’s session uploaded.

The second item is that different sides of the textured sheet are oriented top and bottom. This is an Agru MicroSpike ® Geomembrane and according to my discussions with the manufacturer, the proper orientation is that of the panel to the right (darker, more aggressive texturing side up). This photo is taken of a landfill cell floor where the slope I believe was less than 5% but the phot makes it look steeper.

In these blog posts, Do You See What Glen Sees, I will present a photograph or short video related to earthwork or geosynthetics construction and have you identify the significance of what you’re seeing.

It could be things being done correctly or incorrectly. Primarily, these will be things that impact quality.

In addition to my blog, I’ll post this content on X and LinkedIn. You can post your response on one of those two.

I’ll give you my thoughts on each photo or video when I post the next installment.

Do you see what I see? Or did you find something I missed? I’m excited to find out!

Here is the next installment. Take a good look. Do You See What Glen Sees?

Welcome to volume #26 of Do You See What Glen Sees?! Wow! It’s hard to believe we’ve been doing this for half-a year already! I hope you’re enjoying this as much as I am!
